Japan Post has started converting their fleet to electric vehicles. The first EVs will begin their routes as of the end of this month. Japan Post has started five-year leases on 20 Mitsubishi iMiEVs and 20 Subaru Stellas for the Kanagawa Prefecture where charging stations are already in place. As more areas become EV-ready, the service will faze out more of the gasoline-free cars.
The service will also be testing nine electric trucks that feature rooftop solar panels and several single-seater vehicles based on Toyota’s Ultra Small Electric Vehicle Everyday COMS. According to local press, Toyota will also be supplying the Japan Post with preview versions of the plug-in Prius near the end of the year.
